Our privacy approach

LocStat exists to help families know their people are safe. That only works if you can trust us with something as personal as where your family is. So we built LocStat around one simple idea: your family's location belongs to your family, not to us, and never to advertisers.

Here's how that works in practice, in plain English.

We don't sell your data. Ever.

Many free apps make their money by selling data or showing ads. LocStat doesn't. Families pay $10 a month, and that's our whole business. We have no reason to sell your information, and we never will.

  • No ads.
  • No data brokers.
  • No selling or sharing your family's location for marketing.
  • No tracking tools from advertising companies in our apps.

Your lock screen doesn't give anything away

When something happens, like a pickup request or a call for help, your phone shows a notification. To deliver it, every app has to pass that message through Apple (for iPhones) or Google (for Android phones).

We don't want Apple, Google, or anyone glancing at your locked phone to learn who your family is or where they are. So our notifications only say something general, like “Pickup request from your family.”

  • No names.
  • No places.
  • No addresses or map locations.

Once you open LocStat, the app fetches the details securely from our servers and shows you who, where, and when. The details travel straight from us to you, not through Apple or Google.

Your data stays in Canada

Your family's information is stored on servers in Toronto, Canada, and is protected under Canadian privacy law. It is encrypted when it travels between your phone and our servers.

Even our team can't see where your family is

We designed LocStat so that our own staff don't have a screen that shows anyone's location. When our support team helps you, they can see things like whether your account is active or when a phone last checked in, but not where anyone is or has been.

Sharing, not spying

LocStat is for families who choose to share with each other.

  • The person being located always sees that sharing is on.
  • There's no hidden mode and no secret tracking.
  • Guardians who share their own location with each other choose to turn it on, and can pause it or turn it off at any time.

You're in control

  • You choose how long LocStat keeps your family's location history: anywhere from 1 to 30 days. Older history is deleted automatically.
  • You can delete your account from the app at any time.
  • If your subscription ends, location sharing stops after a 16-day grace period, and your family's data is deleted after 90 days.

The few companies we rely on

No app can run entirely on its own. Here's who we use and what they see:

  • Apple and Google deliver notifications. They see that a notification was sent, but not names or places.
  • Our map provider shows the map. Like any map app, it sees which area of the map you're viewing, but not your family's names.
  • Stripe handles payments. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Our email provider sends sign-in codes and receipts.

None of them are allowed to use your family's location for advertising.
